POKER STARS:
Hello Victor,
Thank you for your Email regarding this site. I will do my best to re-
assure you about both the security of PokerStars and the nature of
this bogus package.
First and foremost, I assure you that this software, "PokerRNG 6.0",
does not do what it says. It claims to be able to "synchronize with a
poker room's RNG", which just is not possible.
Our shuffle is completely random, favoring or disfavoring no player
over any other. The computerized methods we use to shuffle the deck
are more than sufficient to ensure complete randomization of the
cards, and complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can
see the description of these methods at:
http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html
The PokerStars random number generator does not suffer from what is
commonly known to computer programmers as being deterministic. This
means that the next number given by the generator has no mathematical
relationship to the prior one. Only in deterministic "pseudo-random"
generators is this even a possibility, and PokerStars doesn't use this
type of random number generator.
If a poker site were cracked in this manner (and it did happen once,
back in 1999, as described in the link at the bottom of the above
URL), it would be a crack unique to that site and that site only.
Such an exploit would not work across the myriad of sites that this
utility claims to work on.
Also, this bogus package claims to show you the hole cards of other
players. This is also not possible for the same reasons. What is
more likely, though we've not confirmed this, is that this package is
spyware that will show the author of the program *your* hole cards if
you install it. Spyware is the only means by which someone can
possibly see the hole cards of other players, and this package has all
the signs of being malware:
1) Preying on the avarice of the player (make big money by cheating)
2) Fantastic, unproven claims
3) Claiming to be limited to only a handful of customers
The last one is pretty interesting, because that site has been making
the same claim about "limiting the number of downloads" or "taking it
off the market by" some date now for over a year.
Finally, there's a well-known touchstone for identifying scams of this
nature, and that's "why are you selling your system / information?".
After all, if you were able to crack through the security of a poker
site and know the other player's cards or the board cards to come...
would you sell it for a mere $400 as this author claims to do? Or,
would you instead use it in a few key hands to win the six figure top
prize in our largest tournaments, and a few key $1,000 pots each day?
If he has such a system as he describes, why would he sell it for so
little money? It doesn't make sense... and that's because he can't do
what he claims. He only makes money when someone buys his software.
Please don't be the sucker that proves P.T. Barnum correct. There's
no such thing as the hacker tool described on this page. PokerStars
is secure and this software absolutely will not work as advertised on
PokerStars. We strongly advise that you not use or install it, as
doing so may introduce spyware or other malicious software into your
system.
I hope this has answered your question completely. Please do not
hesitate to let us know any time you have concerns. Good luck in your
games, and thank you for playing on PokerStars.
Regards,
Randy
